Legal Internship - Rural Services Program

RAICES’s Austin office is currently seeking undergraduate or law student interns for its rural service program. This internship can be remote or in Austin, TX and has a concentration in Legal and Immigration. The schedule for this internship is flexible with a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week.

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees. With legal services, social programs, bond assistance, and an advocacy team focused on changing the narrative around immigration in this country, RAICES is operating on the national front lines of the fight for immigrant rights.


  • Assists with immigration form preparation;
  • Organizes supporting documentation;
  • Drafts client declarations; 
  • Assists with translations;
  • Assists with legal intake process;
  • Conducts legal research;  
  • Assists with performing outreach to rural communities;
  • Conducts data entry; and,
  • Other project-related tasks.


  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or law school degree program;
  • Spanish language and/or other relevant language fluency;
  • Interest in serving the community, law practice, and in human rights;
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team;
  • Able to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse client population and community members;


  • Studies on or related to Political Science, International Studies, Public Policy, Pre-law, Humanities, Spanish.
  • Experience working in law;
  • Commitment to social justice evidenced by job and/or volunteer/intern experience;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse, immigrant, low-income, children, and/or vulnerable populations;
  • Proficient in use of technology including MS Office, Google Apps and Internet research.

By interning with RAICES you will gain broad knowledge of the different components encompassing immigration law, be at the forefront of the fight for a fair immigration system, gain experience with a broad spectrum of cases related to immigration, from claims of asylum and domestic violence to petitioning for naturalization and residency, and learn about the practice of law to advocate for social change.
