RAICES seeks to hire a full-time Immigration Attorney to represent individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act. This position will focus on assisting those impacted by the Migrants Protocol Procedure (MPP).  This is a full-time position located in Laredo, Texas.

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees. With legal services, social programs, bond assistance, and an advocacy team focused on changing the narrative around immigration in this country, RAICES is operating on the national front lines of the fight for immigrant rights.

  Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct thorough intakes to ascertain immigration relief;
  • Handle large caseload providing direct representation to individuals eligible for immigration relief;
  • Coordinate with the MPP Fellow located in San Antonio to provide pro se assistance with asylum applications;
  • Provide representation to individuals in immigration removal proceedings before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the San Antonio Immigration Court, the Video Teleconference Courts and Tent Courts along the Border of Nuevo Laredo; 
  • Assume general administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, supervision of a legal assistant, and timekeeping.

 Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school;
  • Admission to a State Bar required and/or Must be Sitting for State Bar Exam Summer of 2020 (Continued employment dependent upon Bar Exam Results);
  • Fluent in Spanish and English;
  • Experience in immigration and family law preferred but agency willing to train;
  • Commitment to social justice evidenced by job and/or volunteer/intern experience;
  • Able to travel in the San Antonio, Laredo and Nuevo Laredo area as needed;
  • Able to travel internationally to northern Mexico.
