RAICES seeks to hire a full-time immigration Legal Assistant to assist in-house attorneys to manage their caseload in representing individuals impacted by the Migrants Protocol Procedure (MPP). This is a full-time position located in Laredo, Texas.

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees. With legal services, social programs, bond assistance, and an advocacy team focused on changing the narrative around immigration in this country, RAICES is operating on the national front lines of the fight for immigrant rights.

  Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Answer telephone, calendar appointments, and take messages;
  • Gather, track and record client data;
  • Meet with clients, gather supporting documents, prepare translations;
  • Engage in community outreach;
  • Prepare filings for individuals in immigration removal proceedings as well as before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the San Antonio Immigration Court, 
  • Manage both electronic and paper case file including client case log;
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assume general administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, supervision of a legal assistant, and timekeeping;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency (written and verbal in both Spanish and English;
  • Previous experience working in a law office preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience working with immigrant, low-income and/or vulnerable populations;
  • Capacity for working both independently and on team projects;
  • Ability to thrive in a high-paced work environment, while maintaining procedural and ethical integrity;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Proficient in use of technology including MS Office, Google Apps and Internet research;
  • Possession of Bachelor's degree or comparable knowledge and work experience;
  • Able to travel in the San Antonio, Laredo and Nuevo Laredo area as needed;
  • Able to travel internationally to northern Mexico.
