Administrative Assistant - Released Legal Services Director 

RAICES is hiring an Administrative Assistant to provide a range of administrative support services to the Released Legal Services Director of RAICES (“Director”) to promote efficient and on-time delivery of services. In working with internal and external contacts, including staff and internal leadership, this position deals with a wide range of highly sensitive issues under tight deadlines. This full-time position will report to the Released Legal Services Director and is based in Houston with some travel required.

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services and education to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas.  We actively advocate for these individuals and do whatever it takes to assist the immigrant community.

Founded in 1986, RAICES has grown to be the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas. With offices in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, RAICES is a frontline organization in the roiling debate about immigration and immigrants in the world. Job Description:

  • Manages the Director's calendar and scheduling including prioritizing and resolving related conflicts and competing demands;
  • Works closely with the Director on systematic update of department status on open projects and process improvement initiatives. Prepares selective summaries and any follow-up actions for the Director;
  • Prepares documents for the Director including writing,proofreading, formatting and designing documents for distribution;
  • Proofreads, answers, and composes routine correspondence both hand-written and electronic;
  • Coordinates, plans, and organizes small-to large-scale meetings;
  • Performs general clerical duties;
  • Undertakes special assignments/projects on a wide variety of issues as requested by the Director;.
  • Contributes to the excellent reputation of the Director’s office through professional, friendly and respectful interactions internally and externally; and,
  • Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.


  • Degree in business management or a related field, or training in secretarial skills, office management and/or administrative studies;
  • A minimum of 2 years supporting senior Executives or higher management;
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage calendars and effectively maintain records and files;
  • Strong computer skills including high proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Experience in graphic design and knowledge of design software;
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain professional, friendly, and cordial relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members and external partners;
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion;
  • Adaptable to various competing demands with the highest level of customer/client service and response;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications. Proficiency in grammar, spelling and proofreading;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Fluent in verbal and written English and Spanish; and,
  • Affinity for the mission and vision of RAICES.
