BILINGUAL LEGAL ASSISTANT

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost
immigration legal services and education to under-served immigrant children, families and
refugees in Texas. We currently seek one full-time bilingual legal assistant to work in our Central San Antonio office located at 1305 N. Flores Street, San Antonio, Texas 78748.

Responsibilities: The Legal Assistant’s primary responsibilities are:

  • Answer client inquiries, answer telephone, calendar appointments, and take messages;
  • Gather, track and record client data;
  • Meet with clients, gather supporting documents and prepare translations;
  • Provide interpretation for clients at interviews and hearings, as needed;
  • Prepare filings for immigration court, family court, and for Department of Homeland Security;
  • Manage both electronic and paper case file including client case logs;
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail;
  • Cover front desk through rotation schedule when receptionist is unavailable; and
  • Additional special projects as needed.

Qualifications: Eligible applicants must satisfy each of the following criteria:

  • Fluency (written and verbal) in both the Spanish and English languages;
  • Demonstrated experience working with immigrant, low-income and/or vulnerable populations;
  • Previous experience working in a law office preferred;
  • Capacity for working both independently and on team projects;
  • Ability to thrive in a high-paced work environment, while maintaining procedural and ethical integrity;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Proficient in use of technology including MS Office, Google Apps, and internet research;
  • Possession of Bachelor’s degree or comparable knowledge and work experience.

Terms & Conditions: 

  • Office hours are 8:00-500, Monday-Friday;
  • References will be called and reviewed;
