Job Description for Pro Bono Coordinator Attorney

The Pro Bono Coordinator Attorney is a full time position reporting to the Director of Pro Bono Programs. The Pro Bono Coordinator Attorney is responsible for the day to day running of RAICES pro bono programs with initial emphasis on families effected by family separation. The duties include recruiting private attorneys and expanding the participation of pro bono volunteers through outreach efforts to law school clinics and law school pro bono and externship programs. Responsibilities include: Designing and developing outreach and recruiting efforts for the Pro Bono Project, organizing RAICES legal clinics as needed, including DACA clinics, Naturalization clinics, holding I-589 clinics when warranted, and other specialty clinics as needed; overseeing training and logistics for all pro bono attorneys and volunteers; working with RAICES attorneys to assist with placement of pro bono work; directing the recognition of pro bono efforts through monthly or quarterly acknowledgements.


Job Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for pro bono volunteer recruiting, scheduling and training
  • Collaborate with RAICES attorneys to create and maintain schedule of opportunities for pro bono work
  • Work with professional associations to publicize opportunities for volunteers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with private attorneys, bar associations and law firms
  • Facilitate development and distribution of volunteer training materials relevant to volunteers and pro bonos by working with legal program directors, in particular, Family Detention
  • Work proactively with staff to provide accurate information, assistance and project-specific training to the pro bonos and law students
  • Work closely with Family Detention director to train and schedule Family Detention interns in accordance with broader RAICES Summer Internship Program
  • Handle telephone, voicemail, written, and e-mail inquiries for information regarding the families effected by family separation
  • Follow up with pro bonos on assigned cases and facilitate communication with staff attorneys if needed
  • Closely coordinate with other members of the Education and Outreach team to create, implement and maintain a Court Observers program
  • Staff Education and Outreach events as assigned




  • The Pro Bono Coordinator must have working knowledge of relevant immigration issues and experience with interviewing clients and/or working with trauma survivors is preferable
  • The Pro Bono Coordinator must be an outgoing person, comfortable with public speaking, and recruiting.
  • Must be a team player and able to work a flexible schedule with long hours when needed
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal services provided by RAICES is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication, preferably bilingual in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage
  • Able to effectively organize and present information in group settings, both formal and informal.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Self-starter.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel locally as required to perform duties.
