Director of Learning and Development

We’re looking for a Director of Learning and Development to join our team. This exciting new role will focus on developing essential capabilities for our rapidly expanding agency roles while also preparing our professionals for career growth. Through collaboration our leadership team, this role will help shape a learning and development culture at RAICES. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced L&D professional with knowledge of the non profit landscape, expertise supporting large internal client groups, experience with external training vendors in the elearning space, and experience in change management.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for collaborating with business units/functions/divisions and leadership to determine professional or leadership development needs and technical/functional needs in support of organizational goals. Based on needs analysis, this position will work with leaders, subject matter experts and/or external vendors to develop and implement learning solutions that measurably improve performance.

Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with department leaders, subject matter experts, and project leaders to provide subject matter expertise and identify professional and leadership development opportunities at the role, team, function, or organizational level. Consult with stakeholders regarding technical/functional development as needed.
  • Design learning curriculum with a long term view of learning needs as they relate to our strategy and leadership capabilities framework.
  • Develop training programs using sound instructional design principles and in a variety of formats appropriate for the topics. Evaluates modes of delivery to ensure training is engaging, practical yet impactful, and cost effective.
  • Maintain and update training curriculum, course material and delivery methods as needed.
  • Research, initiate, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Facilitate technical/functional, professional, or leadership development programs using sound adult learning principles. Facilitation may include but is not limited to delivery via on-site, telepresence (video conference), or virtual classroom/webinar methods.
  • Provide light one on one coaching or guidance for front line or emerging leaders as it relates to their involvement in learning programs.
  • Provide project management of specific leadership programs as needed.
  • Create valid assessment tools to measure behavior change as it relates to performance.
  • Schedules and coordinates learning activities.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

 Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements 

  • A bachelor’s degree in learning and development, organizational development, or a related field (or the equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in training facilitation and instructional design in a non profit environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience designing and facilitating professional and leadership development programs and/or managing a large scale program.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in building and managing eLearning and online training content using authoring tools or similar applications.
  • Experience in a legal services, operations environment preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including instructional, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Google, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Willingness to travel 20-50% per year.
