Director of Annual Funds

RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services and education to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas.  We actively advocate for these individuals and do whatever it takes to assist the immigrant community. 


The Director of Annual Funds will serve as a leader in the Development Department at RAICES, providing oversight, management, and strategic leadership on the Annual Fund, which encompasses online donations through the RAICES website and other fundraising platforms (like Facebook, PayPal, etc.), mailed donations outside of the major gifts program, and text-to-give donations. They will report to the Chief Development Officer and work closely with both the Donor Relations unit and Major Gifts unit of the Development Team.

Qualified candidates should possess exemplary writing and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps) and database management skills. The candidate must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, able to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. Previous experience will demonstrate a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities, comprehensive knowledge of individual giving, and the ability to maximize an Annual Fund as a major source of revenue and donor acquisition for RAICES.

Job Description:

Annual Fund

  • Lead a multi-channel strategy for annual fund solicitations
  • Build and manage an annual, monthly, and weekly calendar of solicitations, stewardship, and/or cultivation communications to all Annual Fund targets (current donors, lapsed donors, and prospective donors)
  • React quickly to the immigration news cycle and communicate funding needs and priorities to current and/or prospective donors
  • Identify strategic opportunities for appeals based on events and immigration developments 
  • Benchmark annual fund goals and track annual fund success against established goals (including donor acquisition, donor retention, etc.)
  • Provide weekly and monthly snapshots of the Annual Fund program
  • Conduct weekly stewardship touchpoints and thank top annual fund donors
  • Identify annual donors who qualify for mid-level and/or major gift portfolios and support subsequent prospect research
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure an Annual Fund that is healthy and that does not compete with non-solicitation strategies (advocacy CTAs, etc.)
  • Utilize creative and cutting-edge digital and fundraising strategies to create a successful and sustainable Annual Fund for RAICES

Sustained Giving

  • Maintain and grow the sustained giving program (number of recurring donors, average gift size, total revenue, etc.)
  • Draft and send communications to donor file that result in an increase in sustaining donors
  • Minimize donor churn in the sustainer group, with a focus on re-engaging lapsed donors and (re-)capturing donors whose payment methods have changed
  • Track sustainer program success against established goals
  • Write and implement an annual strategic plan for sustained donors
  • Provide special touch points for any top sustaining donors (weekly recurring donors, annual total giving > $2,000, etc.)
  • Manage a portfolio of top sustaining donors
  • Identify sustaining donors who qualify for mid-level and/or major gift portfolios and support subsequent prospect research


  • Forecast annual revenue for the Annual Fund and Sustainer Giving
  • Lead the strategy and execution of Giving Tuesday
  • Support the strategy and execution of regional giving days


  • Data-driven and digital savvy with the ability to identify trends and patterns in data and donor behaviors
  • Proactive in seeking solutions and identifying opportunity for growing and engaging the donor file
  • Strong skill set in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to donor communications and annual fund solicitations
  • Demonstrated ability to write communications to a donor or similar audience that is compelling, concise, broad-based, consistent, and drives people to action
