Immigration Attorney

RAICES, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services and education to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas seeks to hire a full-time staff attorney who will represent individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The Staff Attorney will provide legal services for unaccompanied immigrant juveniles released from the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in the DFW metroplex. Core responsibilities will include screening unaccompanied children for legal relief, direct representation and pro bono attorney outreach, training and mentoring on behalf unaccompanied immigrant children. All RAICES staff participates in data input and reporting, stakeholder relationship building and other duties, as required. 
 

This position is located in Fort Worth, TX.

 Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct thorough intakes to ascertain immigration relief;
  • Handle large caseload providing direct representation to individuals eligible for immigration relief;
  • Provide representation to individuals in immigration removal proceedings as well as before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Dallas Immigration Court, or Texas state courts if related to a client’s immigration case;
  • Conduct Know Your Rights presentations and other community outreach, as needed, in Fort Worth, Tarrant County and surrounding counties, which may occur outside of regular business hours;
  • Assume general administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, supervision of a legal assistant, and timekeeping;

 Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school;
  • Admission to Texas state bar;
  • Fluent in Spanish;
  • Experience in immigration preferred;
  • Able to travel throughout North Texas. Occasional travel to Houston for asylum interviews may also be required.
